Lindsay Lohan has been axed from playing Linda Lovelace in 'Inferno'. The 24-year-old actress, who is in court ordered rehab battling continuing drug problems until January, had hoped the role in the film about the tragic 'actress would revive her career.

However, director Matthew Wilder, who had continued to delay filming until Lindsay, 24, was better, finally decided to replace her on Saturday (11-20-10).  He said: "We stuck by her very patiently for a long time with a lot of love and support. The impossibility of insuring her and other issues have made it impossible for us to go forward."

Lindsay has been replaced by 'Watchmen' actress Malin Akerman. Producer Chris Hanley said: "Malin was passionate to take this challenge of the role to task and we feel she has the talent to meet that challenge.
